Empire State Building Converts Floors to Airbnb Listings
Sky-high rentals
According to reports, the Empire State Building has joined the gig economy by converting several of its upper floors into Airbnb rentals. For $899 a night, guests can sleep where King Kong once clung, complete with free binoculars and faint Wi-Fi. “Its like staying inside Monopoly,” said one tourist.
Hosts promise “authentic skyscraper living,” but guests complain about elevator wait times and being woken up by office workers wandering in at dawn. The observation deck is now labeled “shared space,” and guests are warned that pigeons may attempt to join them for breakfast.
Critics worry the move worsens NYCs housing crisis. “I cant get a one-bedroom in Queens, but tourists can rent 102 floors in Midtown?” fumed one renter. Airbnb defended the plan, citing “skyline immersion” as a priceless amenity. “Where else can you brush your teeth while staring directly at the Chrysler Building?”
TikToks #Empirebnb trend shows influencers sipping champagne in bathrobes while dodging lightning at 1,200 feet. A viral clip showed a guest ordering Uber Eats to the 86th floor and tipping extra for the cardio.
Tabloids soared. “AIRBNB STATE” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “SKY RENTALS.”
Mayor Adams praised it as “vertical hospitality.” Governor Hochul muttered, “If my skyline becomes a timeshare, Im banning skyscrapers.”
