Coney Island Mermaid Parade Adds Crypto Float
Sea of scams
According to reports, the Coney Island Mermaid Parade has added a crypto-themed float, complete with shirtless bros dressed as Bitcoin logos tossing Dogecoin tokens into the crowd. Organizers say its “a celebration of decentralization, beach sand, and SPF 50.”
One paradegoer said, “I got hit in the head with an NFT flyer and now owe $400 in gas fees.” Another complained that the Ethereum mermaid float crashed mid-route and required a 45-minute reboot.
TikToks #CryptoMermaids trend shows influencers dancing in sequin tails while hawking dubious altcoins. A viral clip showed a Shiba Inu in sunglasses leading the float like a furry mascot of fiscal ruin.
Tabloids splashed. “MERMAID MONEY GRAB” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “COINEDY ISLAND.”
Mayor Adams praised it as “blockchain culture.” Governor Hochul muttered, “When the lobsters start trading NFTs, Im out.”
