Central Park Adds Paid Fast Lane for Joggers
Run like a VIP
According to reports, Central Park has launched a controversial “Fast Lane” system for joggers willing to pay extra to outrun the masses. For $29.99 a month, runners get access to a golden-marked lane enforced by whistle-blowing attendants. “Its like EZ-Pass for cardio,” said one city official while dodging cyclists.
Wealthy joggers love it. “I dont train for marathons to weave around strollers and tourists feeding squirrels,” huffed one hedge fund manager in neon spandex. Regular runners, however, are furious. “Ive been jogging here for free since the Bloomberg era, and now Im getting ticketed for sweating in the wrong lane?” fumed a lifelong New Yorker.
The fast lane comes with perks: hydration stations stocked with coconut water, motivational DJs blasting remixes of Alicia Keys, and roving masseuses offering “in-motion deep tissue therapy.” Those in the slow lane, by contrast, dodge pigeons and hear only the faint jingling of Mister Softee trucks.
TikToks #FastLaneRun has gone viral, with influencers sprinting past average joggers while shouting “class mobility.” One viral video shows a finance bro tackling a peloton rider for cutting into the premium lane. “Thats a $200 infraction,” the attendant scolded.
Critics argue its another sign of New Yorks growing inequality. “First rent hikes, now treadmill capitalism in the park,” wrote one activist. The tabloids laced up their sneakers: “SPEED GREED” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “RUN FOR THE MONEY.”
Mayor Adams praised it: “This keeps the city movingliterally.” Governor Hochul muttered, “If I see velvet ropes in Central Park, Im banning jogs.”
