Upper East Side Installs Diamond Crosswalks

Luxury lanes for the elite

The Upper East Side has raised the bar for pedestrian safety—by making it exclusive. According to reports, diamond-encrusted crosswalks now shimmer outside Madison Avenue boutiques, ensuring that even jaywalking feels like a red-carpet event.

“Finally, my stilettos match the pavement,” said one shopper, stepping delicately across Cartier. The sparkly lanes reportedly cost $5 million per block, though residents argue it’s cheaper than pothole repairs. Tourists, meanwhile, steal selfies mid-crossing, clogging traffic as cabbies scream in disbelief.

Locals love the glam, though sanitation crews complain about the constant glitter glare. TikTok’s #ShinySide trend shows influencers moonwalking across intersections to flex their diamond drip.

Tabloids shined. “BLING RING ROAD” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “GEM TRAFFIC.”

Mayor Adams praised the project as “safety with sparkle.” Governor Hochul promised audits, warning the Bronx might get jealous and demand emerald sidewalks.

For now, the Upper East Side proves crosswalks can be fashion statements—just don’t scuff them.
