Cards over contracts

According to reports, a Manhattan startup now uses tarot readings instead of contracts to offer “rent insurance.” Tenants pull cards to see if their rent will be covered during crises. The Tower card? Eviction. The Sun card? Rent magically paid.

One founder explained, “It’s vibes-based risk assessment.” Landlords love it, tenants panic, and investors call it “mystical fintech.”

TikTok’s #TarotRent trend shows renters livestreaming readings with captions like “pls no Devil card.” One viral clip: a tenant drew Death, only to find a rent hike notice in their mailbox minutes later.

Tabloids foretold. “FATE OR FRAUD?” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “LEASE BY LUCK.”

Mayor Adams praised it as “financial spirituality.” Governor Hochul muttered, “This state is cursed.”
