NYC Subways Install Mood Lighting

Trains now double as nightclubs

The MTA has finally answered New Yorkers’ prayers for ambiance—though not for punctuality. According to reports, subway cars now feature neon mood lighting, transforming commutes into impromptu nightclubs for rats, influencers, and exhausted commuters alike.

“Our data shows that if you’re going to be trapped between Times Square and Herald Square for 27 minutes, you may as well look fabulous under purple LED glow,” said one MTA official. Riders can now choose between “Romantic Red,” “Corporate Blue,” and “Hangover Green,” though most agree “Caution Yellow” just feels too real.

Locals are torn. “I missed my stop because I thought I was in a Bushwick rave,” confessed one commuter. Another said, “Honestly, it distracts me from the smell.” Meanwhile, DJs are petitioning for turntable space in the conductor’s booth.

Tabloids got lit. “DISCO-INFERNO LINE” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “E TRAIN, E NIGHT.” TikTok’s #SubwayRave trend exploded with influencers grinding next to pole dancers who weren’t paid performers.

Mayor Adams applauded the upgrade, calling it “part of the city’s wellness strategy.” Governor Hochul promised to study dimmer switches but admitted she enjoyed “a good 6 train slow jam.”

For now, commuters are stuck deciding whether to bring glow sticks with their MetroCards.
