NYC Pigeons Unionize, Demand Bread Benefits
Bird bosses threaten sky strike
New York pigeons have had enough. According to reports, the citys feathered residents have unionized, demanding fair treatment, bread benefits, and an end to “hostile broom sweeps.” Organized under Local 212, the pigeons are threatening a “sky strike” if demands arent met.
The movement began when pigeons in Times Square realized tourists were paying more for pretzels than they earned in crumbs. “Its wage theft,” declared one pigeon leader. Others complain of poor working conditions, including constant honking, drone harassment, and limited access to premium bagel scraps.
Union slogans include “Bread, Not Crumbs” and “One City, Under Pigeon.” Flyers (literally) are being dropped across boroughs. Locals are torn. Some welcome the effort, noting pigeons are an essential part of the New York experience. Others argue theyre “sky rats” and should focus on aerial pooping accuracy.
Tabloids flapped hard. “WING POWER” cried the Post. The Daily News countered: “CLUCK OFF.” Social media erupted with solidarity posts: #UnionizeThePigeons trended for days, while TikTok showed pigeons picketing outside bagel shops. A viral meme depicted pigeons in hard hats demanding hazard pay for dodging Citi Bikes.
Mayor Adams acknowledged the birds grievances but suggested mediation. Governor Hochul promised to review the union contract, provided pigeons agreed not to roost on her office window. Meanwhile, Wall Street analysts worry that a pigeon strike could cripple the pretzel economy, sending ripple effects to the entire snack sector.
For now, pigeons circle ominously, ready to descend. As one Brooklyn resident warned: “Never underestimate a New York pigeon. They already run this town.”
