NYC Pigeons Sue for Sidewalk Rights

Claim humans hog all the crumbs

In a shocking development, New York City’s pigeons have filed a class-action lawsuit demanding equal sidewalk rights. According to reports, the birds argue they’ve been marginalized, trampled, and disrespected for too long. “We built this city,” declared a pigeon spokesperson known only as Larry. “Who else is eating three-day-old hot dogs at 3 a.m.?”

The case, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, alleges humans hog all the prime walking space while pigeons are forced into gutters, scaffolding, and subway grates. The pigeons want legal recognition as “co-pedestrians” and dedicated crosswalks marked with tiny breadcrumbs. They also demand a ban on toddlers chasing them, which they describe as “psychological warfare.”

Not everyone is sympathetic. “They poop on my car every single morning,” fumed a Queens resident. “If anything, pigeons should pay rent.” But pigeon activists insist they contribute to the economy. “Do you know how many tourists we entertain by flying in flocks around Times Square? That’s unpaid labor,” Larry squawked.

The tabloids dove right in: “BIRDS DEMAND BREAD” blasted the Post. The Daily News countered with: “CLUCK OFF.” Social media had a field day, with memes of pigeons in business suits entering court. TikTok influencers posted videos reenacting the lawsuit with cooing soundtracks. One viral video showed a pigeon waddling across Houston Street with the caption, “Fight for your crumbs, king.”

City Hall called the lawsuit frivolous but admitted pigeons are an “integral part of the ecosystem.” Mayor Adams suggested building designated “pigeon plazas,” though critics noted that would basically describe every bodega roof. Meanwhile, lawyers representing rats are rumored to be watching closely, ready to demand equal access to pizza slices.

Whether the pigeons win sidewalk rights or not, New Yorkers know one thing: the birds will still stare you down at lunchtime until you surrender your bagel. As one Midtown office worker sighed, “They already run the city. This is just making it official.”
