Nature costs extra on sunny days

Mother Nature just got monetized. According to reports, New York City parks now use surge pricing, charging higher entry fees on sunny weekends and discounting cloudy Tuesdays where squirrels look depressed.

Park entrances feature digital boards like Uber, with fluctuating rates: “Central Park lawn spot—$25 per hour. Prospect Park picnic—$15 plus cooler fee. Washington Square Park chess table—sold out.”

Locals are outraged. “I can’t afford to breathe anymore,” grumbled one jogger, slapped with a $40 fee for a run during golden hour. Tourists shrugged, saying it was “still cheaper than Broadway.”

Tabloids sprouted headlines. “PAY TO PLAY” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “TREE-MENDOUS SCAM.” TikTok’s #SurgeNature trend showed influencers comparing receipts for different blades of grass, declaring some “worth the upcharge.”

Mayor Adams defended the program, insisting the fees would fund “luxury squirrels” and “premium leaves.” Governor Hochul promised to cap surge pricing, though skeptics noted she once tried to sell air rights to pigeons.

For now, nature in New York has gone pay-to-play—another reminder that in this city, even sunlight is subject to inflation.
