NYC Coffee Now Priced by Ounce

Baristas wield measuring cups

Your morning latte just got a math problem. According to reports, New York cafes now charge coffee strictly by the ounce, forcing baristas to measure every drip like Wall Street brokers trading liquid gold.

Customers are outraged. “My cappuccino cost $18.47, and that’s before tip,” said one exhausted Brooklynite, clutching a cup the size of a thimble. Cafes defend the policy, arguing it “brings transparency to caffeine economics.”

Baristas now carry tiny scales, measuring foam density and splash overage. Some customers request “just one more ounce,” sparking heated debates at counters citywide. Meanwhile, Starbucks launched a premium plan where customers can pre-purchase ounces in bulk, like wholesale gasoline.

Tabloids perked up. “ESPRESSO-SHUNATE” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “BREW CRISIS.” TikTok’s #OunceOfCoffee trend showed influencers crying as their debit cards declined mid-pour.

Mayor Adams defended the move, calling coffee “a controlled substance that needs regulation.” Governor Hochul promised to subsidize small cups, though critics warned it could trigger a caffeine black market in Queens.

For now, New Yorkers sip cautiously, knowing every drop has a price tag attached.
