MTA Introduces Crying Baby Car

Finally, peace for commuters without infants

The MTA has announced its boldest innovation yet: the “Crying Baby Car.” According to reports, the new subway car will be reserved exclusively for infants and their exhausted guardians, giving other commuters the rare gift of silence. “We separate quiet cars on Amtrak,” an MTA spokesperson explained. “This is just New York’s louder version.”

The pilot program begins on the 4 train, long notorious for meltdowns that rival Broadway matinees. Each crying baby car will feature padded walls, stroller parking, and an unlimited supply of Cheerios. The sound system will blast white noise—or, for extra chaos, Baby Shark on loop. Diaper-changing stations will also double as phone-charging docks, ensuring no parent is left powerless in more ways than one.

Reaction was mixed. Parents praised the idea, saying it finally acknowledges the reality of city parenting. “Now I don’t have to pretend my baby’s cries are part of the sax solo,” one Harlem mother said. Commuters without kids wept with joy at the thought of peaceful rides. “This is the first good news from the MTA since 1965,” a Midtown banker claimed.

Critics, however, argue the plan is discriminatory. “What’s next, a car for loud phone talkers?” asked one annoyed Queens resident. Transit activists worry the move stigmatizes families. “We don’t want babies segregated from the city,” one protester declared, holding a sign reading “No Crying on the 6 Train.”

Tabloids ran wild: “WAIL TO THE CHIEF” screamed the Post, while the Daily News dubbed it “Subway Lullaby.” Social media quickly filled with memes of subway cars filled entirely with wailing infants. One viral TikTok claimed the crying baby car was actually louder than a normal train. “I thought it’d be bad,” the creator confessed, “but it’s like a Beyoncé concert without the talent.”

Despite the backlash, the MTA insists the plan is here to stay. Future upgrades may include “Snoring Guy Cars” and “Accordion Busker Zones.” Officials hope the innovation will make commuting slightly less miserable—or at least diversify the city’s sources of noise. “We can’t make the trains faster,” the spokesperson admitted. “But we can at least organize the suffering.”
